It is a piece of americana,  it is a symbol of freedom.  It means, adventure beyond your kitchen. It separates the men from the boys. I am talking about "the cooler". If you want to get to know someone,  look in there cooler. Do they have the cooler that when opened smells so bad you dare not touch what ever has died in it from last camp season. Or,  is there a half opened bag of what looks to be hotdogs floating, but has since turned white from water saturation and two cans of Old Milwaukee that sunk to the bottom.  Is your cooler the one filled with ice cold  beer and juicy marinated steaks in a tightly sealed container just waiting to be thrown on the crackling fire-pit? Has your cooler been passed down generations from your dad? The heavy green metal cooler that weighs thirty pounds empty. Are you the one that just bought a brand new cooler at the local outdoors store just for the event, and still stinks like melted plastic?  It may leak, or never keep things cold, and smells like minnows. But you are outdoors, enjoying every minute of your soggy sandwich, sunshine and lukewarm beer with friends.
