Eskimo has been making quality ice fishing gear for years now. They have a great reputation and their service is very good. So when it was time for me to get a new auger, it was a no brainer. I picked up the Mako 43cc and have been happy.
At first glance you will notice that the powder coating and decals on the auger are done well. The handles and throttle are pretty well constructed, I see no problems with it bouncing and shifting around in the back of my truck or fish house. The handle on the rewind is big for getting heavy winter gloved into it. It started on the third pull out of the box, just hit the primer bulb and choked it and I was drilling holes.
We will drill around 40 to 80 holes a day searching for fish on different parts of the lake. This auger cuts smooth and fast so drilling a lot of holes is not a problem. The auger is a little heavy at 31 pounds but it is balanced nicely so it does not feel that heavy. We have fished in minus 25 below to 35 above and have had no problems starting it or drilling with it. We can usually drill a whole weekend on one tank of gas.
So if you are in the market for a new auger, check out Eskimo augers. For around 300 dollars you will not be disappointed. Pick one up and start making swiss cheese out of the lakes you fish.
