Hello gang! Sawyer and I are excited about coming on board and sharing what we know, experience and continue to learn in this awesome sport we all love. We hope to add a little diversity with some youth perspective and of course promote one of our favorite endeavors......Turkey Hunting! We are proud members of the Woodhaven Customs Calls Pro-staff so hopefully we will be able to share some insight on the different types of calls out there.
Our deer season so far has been pretty slow here in Georgia. And after a visit to our local deer cooler, it’s not just us. Numbers are way down. Many factors are involved from weather to pressure to predators but that is discussion for another day. If you have seen Sawyer's bio picture, he was blessed to harvest our family's best white tail ever. Right now it green scores around 135. Lots of hard work and patience went into this hunt. He was able to seal the deal the Saturday after Thanksgiving with the assistance of the new Woodhaven Stinger -Pro Grunt Call. Doe sightings have been rare. In fact we have decided to pass on any doe this season. There have been an abundance of small bucks seen but only a few doe. The county we hunt in is QDM which mean bucks must have at least 4 points on one side. Sawyer has learned to exercise patience and this was his first harvest from a portable climber.
So in summary while the Quality of the season has been excellent, the Quantity has been down. But so has our time. Hopefully after Christmas we will see some improvements with visits by deer to our food plots as all the acorns should be gone and the exaggerated amount of rain has them looking the best they ever have. If nothing else….after January gets here….it will be Turkey Time on the brain. We are currently scheduled to work a Woodhaven booth at the North Ga Cabela’s located in Acworth, GA for their Spring Turkey event. We will demonstrate calls and will also conduct some “Turkey 101” seminars.
Looking forward to catching up on here during the Christmas break. Here’s hoping you all have a Very Merry Christmas.
